Simple Recipes, Simple Pleasures

One of my greatest loves in life is good cooking. I don't get to do five course meals anymore because of lack of time, energy, and kitchen space, but I don't let that be an excuse to get stuck in a rut of bland, unimaginative food.

I also don't believe in waiting for company to come over in order to have something special. Life is too short to eat boring food. Nothing here takes more than 30 minutes of standing in the kitchen. Some things, like my spiced coffee, takes only an extra minute in the morning routine of making coffee (if that's your thing).

There is a wealth of simple pleasures available in every home if you know where to look for them.

The world is getting faster and faster. With each passing day it seems to be more and more difficult to find a moment or two to just...be.

How often do we find ourselves in a routine that has become a rut, going through the motions of life itself? How precious our time is, and yet, there we are at the end of yet another week that has blurred by and a weekend facing us that should be spent enjoying ourselves but most likely will be used to catch up on all the errands and chores we missed during the week.

Do I have the secret for living life to the fullest? No, but I wish I did. The best I can do is find small, simple ways to sit down once or twice a day and indulge myself in something wonderful. A cup of spiced coffee and a favorite book to read to my daughter. Starting up the bread machine and going for a walk just as it starts its baking cycle so we walk into a home smelling like...a home.

Finding joy in life isn't hard, but the key word there is finding. Finding joy is an action, not some mysterious event that just falls out of the sky and hits us on the head by accident. Find your own personal joys. It is my hope that by sharing some of my small joys in life might spur others on to finding their own as well.

FIND verb
To come upon or discover by searching or making an effort.
JOY noun
A source or an object of pleasure or satisfaction

Customary disclaimer:

This isn't a spiritual site, per se. I do believe, however, that by finding a moment of two to stop and enjoy life with small, simple pleasures might just encourage looking a little deeper into where the origins of real happiness could be found.

I do not encourage orgistic wallowing in decadence as 'enjoying' life, it's just another way of escaping.

Stop. Listen. Be still for a while. Enjoy your family or your friends. Be with them 100% rather than thinking about tomorrow or next week's deadlines.

I thought I would try this whole blog thing that seems to be all the rage. Come check it out!

* If you have cats, the water drained from a can of tuna can be a lovely treat for the little hairballs. Keep it as an occasional treat only, as tuna is at the top of the food chain and has higher levels of mercury in it than other types of fish.

Protect yourself and other family members as well with information found at this helpful little link:
